Biography
I’m Minesh Patel, a proud immigrant who made Canada my home 22 years ago. Since 2010, I’ve lived in Calgary Skyview, where I’ve raised my family and built deep roots. I work as a Mechanic with Calgary Transit, keeping our city moving, while my wife, Vaishali Patel, serves as a Healthcare Aide in a Seniors’ home, caring for some of our most cherished community members. Together, we’re raising two active boys, ages 11 and 8, who love soccer, taekwondo, cricket, and hockey—keeping us on our toes!
My parents instilled in me the value of giving back, and for over a decade, I’ve dedicated myself to serving Skyview. I’ve held leadership roles, including the longest-serving President of the Gujarati Mandal of Calgary, the city’s largest community organization, and as a Board of Trustee for various community associations. I’m a humble volunteer at heart, always organizing food bank drives, blood donation camps, and cultural programs to foster understanding and unity across our diverse riding. I believe collaboration can achieve anything—no challenge is too big when we multiply our forces. My work has earned recognition, including the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal, an honor I deeply cherish. Now, I’m running as an independent MP to carry Skyview’s voice to Ottawa—bold, free, and focused on our community’s needs. Join me in building a stronger future for Skyview!
Reason for running
I’m running for MP because I’ve seen firsthand how the system fails Skyview. For years, community members came to me with concerns about government programs, policies, and delays—whether federal, provincial, or municipal. I’d reach out to elected officials, and while smaller issues often got resolved, the bigger, more complex concerns were met with hesitancy or unacceptable delays. It became clear: the government isn’t prioritizing Skyview’s needs, and our voices aren’t being heard. My team and I decided that to fix the system, we must be part of it. That’s why I’m running for federal office—to bring real change from within.
As an independent, I’m not tied to party politics or empty promises. I initially sought the Conservative nomination, volunteering for years to advocate for our community. But when an outside candidate was parachuted in, my team and I chose to run independently, putting people over party. I’m free to fight for what Skyview truly needs: tax relief to ease soaring costs, job growth for small businesses near our airport, federal funding for projects like the Green Line, support for tougher safety laws to curb rising crime, and responsible, thoroughly vetted immigration paired with fair credential recognition—so skilled newcomers, like surgeons, can contribute to our economy and reduce healthcare waits. I’ve spent a year door-knocking, listening to Skyview’s concerns, and I’m ready to carry our bold, diverse voice to Ottawa. Together, we’ll make Skyview unstoppable!
