Ryan Abbott
Biography
Ryan is an Industrial Painter & Sandblaster, a workplace safety rep and a proud union member. He lives in Whalley, Surrey and has worked across Alberta and BC in refineries, shipyards and export terminals.
While the big business parties flounder in the face of a compounding economic crisis, he calls for real action for working people: doubling of the corporate tax rate, public ownership of natural resources, nationalization of steel and auto production, the slashing of military spending and putting our shipyards to work building a new fleet of BC ferries. A long-standing advocate for tenants’ rights and good union jobs, he also calls for the construction of two million units of publicly owned housing as well as massive investments in public transit and green energy.
Reason for running
Socialism is the future.
Whether you look at the climate crisis, the drive towards genocide and nuclear war, or the rapid expansion of AI and automation, capitalism can no longer feed its hunger for unlimited growth and profits. The planet can no longer sustain it, war will destroy it, and automation only undermines its ability to extract profit as it removes labour power (the source of all value) from the equation.
The time for working people to take ownership of the economy and its wealth is now.
