They may still in the future!
Biography
My name is Tait Palsson and I am running as an Independent candidate in Winnipeg South Centre, offering an alternative to the dominant Liberal and Conservative parties. My goals include ending hyper-partisanship, rejecting wasteful campaign practices, and advocating for policies that prioritize people over politics.
When you vote for me you can and should expect:
- A strong, independent voice in Parliament without party constraints.
- A shift away from the current two-party dominance, which mirrors political dysfunction in the U.S.
- Bold action on affordability, housing, the environment, and labour rights.
- A low to zero-waste campaign and sustainable election practices.
- Real electoral reform, including proportional representation and scoring-based voting.
- Greater accountability in Parliament, especially those who evade questions and exhibit poor behaviour.
- Support for workers, fair wages, and protections during economic and technological shifts.
- Climate-conscious leadership, advocating less reliance on emission-heavy air travel by politicians.
- Advocacy for Right to Repair laws to protect you and the environment.
- Strong advocacy for disability rights and inclusion of neuro-diversity in politics and the workplace.
- A sincere commitment to Truth and Reconciliation.
- Elevating citizen-led politics over entrenched, party-dominated systems.
Someone close to me said recently “Government is a circus, it’s time to fire the clowns and bring in a juggler!” I’d be foolish to disagree. Something you might find different about me is that I happen to be an accomplished juggler. As a responsible voter feel free to search my name and you will be able to fact check me on this. If you’d like to learn more about me and things I find relevant, please check out the information below which I will add to through the remainder of the campaign.
I’m inspired by the journalism of Carole Cadwalladr, she just released a new TEDtalk April 9, 2025.
I support the Elbows Up For Climate initiative signed by city councillor Sherri Rollins. To learn more go to elbowsupforclimate.ca

Human Rights are extremely important to me and I will work tirelessly to advocate for them. All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.
FAQs
If you are a good candidate to vote for then why have I never seen a lawn sign for you?
I care about the environment. I am committed to a near-zero waste campaign. On a moral level, I also take issue with how lawn signs are failing to communicate the nuances of a campaign and instead plant the flag of party colour. I question whether this is healthy for communities. This is my second campaign. I also ran in 2023. I have knocked on thousands of doors and the differences between members of a community that I hear face to face are actually quite small. Most everybody agrees that politics is going in the wrong direction, division would seem to be at an all time high but it is mostly limited to the politicians and the attempts they make to differentiate themselves by sowing negative rhetoric about the failings of the Other, whoever that might be at the time. They then fundraise off of the division they stoke. In this way I think lawn signs contribute to political tribalism and polarization all while failing to educate about a platform. As an Independent I will never compete with six-figure budgets of campaigns. I find it offensive because the money could be better spent helping someone struggling to make ends meet. Additionally, as I said at the beginning, I care about our world and I am conscious of my footprint so I choose not to contribute to pollution and create waste that will impact the future. I have no right to do that. I will literally walk the walk, from door to door and hope that I can inspire votes with my voice and not my budget.
Why do we need more Independent candidates elected? Doesn’t Canada need a majority government to have full power?
We need more Independent candidates elected so that we have a greater diversity of voices in parliament. Over the years the divisiveness and rhetoric has grown worse with the present state of Party politics. Canada is teetering on the verge of having a two Party system not unlike what the US is grappling with. So many people share with me when I am out door knocking that having the choice of 2 bad options is not what they want. This is why I am asking for your vote. If you are undecided, planning to vote for either of the 2 predominate candidates or are already committed to not voting at all; I ask you, please for the state of democracy in Canada vote for an Independent candidate. You will not be disappointed.
Canada does not need a majority government to have power. In fact Canadians are better represented by a variety of voices in Ottawa. I have noted that far more unites us than divides us. It is the Party advertising machines and constant rhetoric that wants you to think otherwise. As Canadian voters we are different and have more choice beyond red and blue, I ask you to vote for an Independent candidate and be the catalyst for the change you wish to see in our democracy.
What are you going to do about the Canada US relationship?
I am going to deal with the gut based decision making like the rest of Canadians. I think Elizabeth May of the Green Party had an inspiring response to the ridiculous assertions with her own witty proposal. The cpac.ca link is Ms. May's actual speech and thefreepress.ca is a journalist from Victoria, BC that covered the story.
What can Canada do to protect itself in the face of threats from the US?
I have concern about Canada’s falling productivity. This needs to be addressed. The people of Canada are Canada’s greatest resource and a resource that ought to be respected and not exploited. As a country not recognizing this potential resource harms everyone in so many ways. Have a look at a short video I found and please feel free to reach out to me if this concerns you too. I want to raise this issue in Ottawa. Please vote for an Independent voice in this election. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrR7PQOSnzo
Thank you so much for reading this far and for your interest in an Independent candidate. I appreciate your support. Please do reach out with any questions you may have that I haven’t already addressed here or at your door.
Sincerely,
Tait Palsson
