Mooney became part of the Ontario Party back in 2018 after stepping away from his nomination process for the Ontario PC party after irregularities, or what was then termed as shenanigans, were found to be happening from within the PC management. Mooney withdrew his nomination candidacy, not wanting to be an accepting participant to internal party matters that he saw as bringing disrepute to the party, and didn't want his name involved where such questionable things were happening.
