Biography

submitted by the candidate or their team
I have been a longtime community activist and environmentalist. I served 21 years with the BC Government, retiring as an economic development policy analyst. I am a policy wonk who cares about people, I know how government works and I have a proven track record of success.

These are tough times for us as Canadians, but first and foremost, I want you to know that I am a proud Canadian. We live in an amazing country, populated by a great diversity of peoples and a stunning environment. Sure, things are not perfect – we can and must do better and I believe that as the Green Party of Canada, we can champion those things that are critical to our well-being and prosperity.

Now, American tariffs are threatening our way of life and our democracy seems more fragile than ever. We must be able to face these challenges with strength, unity and determination. It is critical that the Green Party of Canada engage strong candidates who believe in representing their constituents based on social justice and environmental values.

It has always been in my nature to serve my community and over the years, I have been involved in many community organizations, often taking a leading role. In 2017, after 21 years of service, I retired from the BC Government as an economic development policy analyst, gaining skills and experience in policy analysis, communications, project management, strategic thinking and program implementation. Best of all, I learned how government works, an invaluable insight for anyone wanting to serve in government. I have been able to use these skills effectively to serve my community.

I have a proven track record of hard work and success. In 2014, I was invited to join the Ecoforestry Institute Society as a Board member. EIS is the trustee of the renowned Wildwood Ecoforest and holds the property on behalf of the people of BC. I was part of the core legal team that fought for three years to keep the publicly donated forest in the public domain. In 2016, we won the BC Supreme Court decision that gave us the right to purchase Wildwood again and steward it in perpetuity. I am now chair of the Board.

More recently, I was involved in the Fairy Creek peaceful protests, the largest civil disobedience movement in Canadian history. In response to the injunction, I set up our legal team, finding the money and the lawyers to represent us in court. I remain a named defendant in the latest legal suit and am proud of the work we did on behalf of BC’s old-growth forests and Indigenous rights, title and sovereignty.

I cannot tell you how honoured I am to be asked to serve as the candidate for the Cowichan Malahat Langford Electoral District Association. Elizabeth May has also invited me to serve in her Shadow Cabinet as her Forestry Critic. The work has already begun and I am eager to dive in and represent the people in this constituency. We must work harder to ensure people have affordable homes and a lifestyle that works for them.

I have a strong belief in acting from a values-based foundation. Character matters. Integrity matters. Democracy matters. People matter and so does the environment. We can pay now or we can pay later when our children and their families suffer the lack of meaningful progress to advocate for the people and the environment. We can and must choose better to ensure we can all enjoy a future of prosperity and well-being. The Green Party of Canada is that choice.

Reason for running

The Greens have a platform based on social and environmental justice, offering a voice for the people. We would redirect corporate subsidies to ensure people have free education, healthcare and housing.

Here it is, 2025, and the policies of the status quo parties, that is, the Liberals, Conservatives and NDP have brought us to a place of unaffordability and lack of access to the basic necessities of life. We are the voice of the people and it is our role to offer that voice in the face of massive corporate subsidies, the destruction and heavy cost of the oil and gas industry, and the annihilation of our precious forests, the lungs of the earth. Our platform is one of kindness and compassion rather than divisiveness and rage, and we refuse to engage in smear campaigns and attack ads, along with rejecting any ties to the Trump administration.

Voters will want to view our comprehensive 2025 Green Party Platform, found at https://cdn.greenparty.ca/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/GP\_Platform\_English\_FINAL.pdf

You will also want to see our costed initiatives, produced by the Parliamentary Budget Office at https://www.pbo-dpb.ca/en. By ridding ourselves of corporate subsidies and taxing the ultrawealthy, we can afford to feed, house, educate and provide healthcare to Canadians at no cost to them.

Have a look at bold innovative strategies such as the one for Housing (page 56), in which we declare housing a national emergency, then use Canadian products such as aluminum, steel and lumber to build public housing. This covenanted housing would be out of the grasp of predatory investors and available at 30% of household income. Sawmills and factories would be protected from tariffs with the federal government buying up the excess products in a Federal Reserve Strategy, keeping those jobs and paycheques humming along.

Federal taxes would be eliminated for the first $40,000, and the corporations would lose perks such as deductions for meals and entertainment ($4 billion a year).

It's all about balancing what's important for Canadians and what can bring them the necessities of life.

If we keep voting for the status quo parties, we will simply get more of the same. What's the definition of insanity -- doing the same thing over and over and over again, and expecting a different result. They've had decades to change things, yet here we are, with our kids unable to buy a house, must less afford rent, and our seniors having to decide to buy medication or food. If you want change, you need to vote Green. We have no baggage and owe nothing to no one, except you, the voter.

The people need a strong voice at the table. Please vote your values. Vote Green.

Thank you.
